MISSION STATEMENT:

The Human Rights Commission seeks to safeguard all individuals in the City of Richmond from discrimination because of race, color, national origin, ancestry, religion, sex, age (40+), disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and familial status. Prohibiting certain practices in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, and resort or amusement as necessary to protect the interest and personal dignity of its citizens and ensure freedom from humiliation will make available to the city their full productive capacities, secure the city against strife and unrest which would menace its democratic institutions, and preserve its public safety, health and general welfare. Thus, furthering the interests, rights, and privileges of individuals within the City of Richmond.

PURPOSE:

The Human Rights Commission shall serve as an investigative, consultative, educational, persuasive, and enforcement agency in order to guarantee equal opportunity for all people of the City of Richmond as determined by the Kentucky Civil Rights Act.

KENTUCKY CIVIL RIGHTS ACT:

The Kentucky Civil Rights Act (KCRA) protects persons in the state from discrimination based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, and disability in employment, housing, financial transactions, and public accommodation. Also illegal is discrimination in employment based on age (40 and over).
