About the Park

Richmond's newest city park is the first one to be located on Main Street. The park was created in 2019 and the grand opening took place on October 5th, 2019. The park is open and free to the public to use during the day. Located within the area are millstones from mill houses in the Madison County area. Millstones and the mill houses that were used were an important part of the early economy and life of Richmond and Madison County, providing places where farmers or merchants to turn raw crops into usable and more marketable products for general use.

Millstone Park was developed through a partnership with private citizen Speedy Denny and the City of Richmond. Many of the millstones were in fact personal artifacts owned by Denny. The City of Richmond would like to extend a huge thanks to Speedy for his efforts and donation to the City of Richmond and the Richmond Parks and Recreation department for helping create this brand new green space.

Geoff Murphy and Graham Allen from SquarePegs Studio and Design designed the mural.

Updates to signage about the historical aspects of the park will be added in the near future.

The First Annual Millstone Festival will take place on Saturday, October 9th, 2021 from 11 am to 10 pm in Downtown Richmond. There will be craft/business vendors, food and beverage vendors, and live music.
