September 16 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every day that begins at 8:30am, repeating until September 19, 2019

The Irvinton House and Richmond Tourism Department will be hosting a joint exhibition between July 22nd and September 19th.

The Life & Legend of Daniel Boone

The Irvinton House will be showing the exhibit “The Life & Legend of Daniel Boone. This exhibit explores the visions past biographers and artists imposed on the man and introduces Boone’s real life as modern scholars understood it. The poster-panel display will provide a jumping board for discussion about the history of Kentucky and how our early history developed from both the encroaching European settlers and the already established Native-American populations and how the two distinct society co-existed. We encourage schools and educational programs to reach out to us to coordinate additional learning opportunities of group outings.

The Clays of Kentucky

The Richmond Tourism Department will be hosting “The Clays of Kentucky”. This poster-panel exhibit contains images and documents rarely before seen in public. The Clays were one of the most important families to ever live in Kentucky had a large influence over both the development of Kentucky and the United States at large. With famous figure like the Great Statesman Henry Clay and the Abolitionist made of fire and whiskey, Cassius Clay, to suffragettes like Laura Clay, the Clay family saw the potential in Kentucky and America and sought to establish a free, equal, and fair society for all. And while at the same time advancing the interests of Kentuckians nationally and Americans globally. With Richmond being the home of several of the Clays this is the perfect place to come learn about some of the history that has past through these streets.

The exhibits will be open to display Monday through Friday between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. For large groups or special times please email parksandrec@richmond.ky.us to inquire about the special request. These exhibits are free and open to the public and everyone is encouraged to attend. Please follow our Facebook Event here for regular updates.
