Yoga in the Park (Fall 2019)

This September we will be hosting another Yoga in the Park series. This event will be taught by Kelly Liddell. She has multiple years of experience both as a student and teacher of Yoga. Her focus is on a mindful, slow paced form called Vinyasa yoga.

Each class will focus on 3 objectives: to relax and to get grounded; to exercise and build strength; to stretch and improve flexibility. These goals are met through proper bodily alignment and by connecting the movement of the body with the natural flow of the breath.

The template for each class will involve the following elements:

  1. A seated or reclined breathing and mindfulness practice
  2. Warm up, seated or reclined stretches and core and spine strengthening
  3. Traditional Vinyasa-style flow (moving through a series of beginner/intermediate poses in slow to moderately paced and mindful way)
  4. Balance work (beginner level)
  5. Cooling stretches, either seated or reclined
  6. A final moment to restore and rest that ends the class where it began.

Each class will also have a different focus from the preceding and succeeding one to give a feel of growth and variety. So each class you sign up for will be a totally different experience as previous.

The classes will be hosted on the lawn in front of the Irvinton House at Irvine-McDowell Park. Classes will start September, 4th and occur each Wednesday, September 4th through October 7th. The classes will be in the morning at 9 a.m. and last for one hour. All classes will be 18+, or 11+ with adult supervision.

Limited mats will be available. All students are expected to provide their own yoga mat or beach towel to exercise on. The class will be conducted outside on a lawn so please plan accordingly.

There is NO FEE to participate, but we do operate on a “Pay As You Can” system and encourage people to contribute what is comfortable. We want to encourage all residents to participate though.

For more information or questions please contact parksandrec@richmond.ky.us or 859-623-8753.
